Celebrating the Mexico City Interregional Meeting
More than seventy activists from Latin America, Europe and Africa came together to strengthen strategies and shape the next cycle of work.
In September we lived an important moment for On the Right Track (OTRT): the Interregional Meeting in Mexico City. More than seventy activists and participants from Latin America, Europe and Africa gathered to celebrate resistance across our territories, share strategies and shape the next cycle of work.
What we are taking with us
We talked about contexts, challenges and ways of organizing in the face of the far right’s advance. Some of the ideas that resonated most:
- Care is political. Participants from Latin America spoke at length about care and about the sustainability of activists and organizations: having resources and time to rest is vital. We identified the need to keep politicizing care and to analyze how the far right can instrumentalize it.
- Looking reality in the eye. Participants from Europe brought a more concrete view of the precarity, exhaustion and lack of funding that run through activism today.
- Learning from each other. The working groups were among the most valued spaces: they allowed us to share strategies, reflect together and remember that we are not alone and share the same struggle.
- Strategies in common. We identified priorities such as networking, education and training, safe activism and protection, narrative work, and building relationships between struggles. Clear thematic demands also emerged, including anti-racism and care.
We also recognized what is still missing: methodologies that make it easier to exchange experiences and strategies, and the capacity and resources to systematize the knowledge generated across this network.
Next steps
We are taking these conversations into the design of the next cycle of work, committed to weaving alliances between regions and to creating the conditions for learning to flow in both directions.
