Stage 3
STAGE 3: A CROSS-REGIONAL COMMUNITY (SINCE 2024)

Together for democracy as a cross-regional community, we are committed to growing our seeds stronger.

“Weaving Horizons between LBTIQNB+ identities”; Latin American meeting of feminist and women's funds and LBTIQNB+ movements in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia in June.

Since the OTRT initiative started, we have been facing and transforming common challenges, taking care of democracy when it shakes, because it does. So we keep on working, every day, to make it stronger. We learnt that democracy requires our daily commitment, as Djurdja Trajković said in the last Panel of the Cross-regional meeting, Amor Mundi: "It's like brushing your teeth, it requires agency, power, space, time, interdependence, movements and resources". This was when the third stage started: when the process of convergence between the movements from both regions materialised. And our learning process requires both projection and retrospection, which are really present in the current stage of our work.

“Weaving Horizons between LBTIQNB+ identities”; Latin American meeting of feminist and women's funds and LBTIQNB+ movements in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia in June.

In view of all current political events that are against human rights around the globe, we want to highlight the importance of our unity and solidarity, as we continue building bridges and using our voices to defend what is just.

As we find our way through the third stage of this necessary movement that OTRT has become, we make ourselves present for everyday emergencies, acknowledging what has worked for now and still keeping our eyes open to the future vision we hold.

We draw a future as we show up for day to day issues, taking into account the past as well. So far, all our actions,  since the third stage has begun, are a living example of this triple strategy:

  • We have granted 8 contributions to strengthen grass-roots organizations and therefore democracy
  • Program Officers from WFs have been interviewed to evaluate and improve OTRT’s progress
  • We participated in the event that took place in New York last May under the name of “Financing a gender justice infrastructure to counter anti-gender ideology and anti-rights movements”, hosted by the Ford Foundation an GPP
  • We participated at Weaving Horizons last June, the feminist, women's funds and LBTIQNB+ movements Latin American meeting between LBTIQNB+ identities in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia
  • We carried out a Latin American Women’s Funds Communicators meeting at the offices of Fondo Lunaria in Bogotá last May
and our joint communications actions keep on going, this time with a coordinated calendar and new webinars on the table!

We are committed to growing our seeds stronger as the third stage unfolds both in Latin America and Europe. More encounters are needed for us to deepen our connections, so that shared ideas and dreams can keep transforming into real community practices that make a better world possible for all.
